Fuelling UK Public Sector Innovation
“…the ambition of this Strategy—to create a world-leading digital economy that works for everyone. It is part of this government’s Plan for Britain, strengthening our economy for the long term…”
Karen Bradley, then Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport
This commitment aims to ensure that the right infrastructure is in place to deliver high-capacity, secure and reliable connectivity to support digitisation at all levels of government including central, regional and local. This is based on the overall recognition that continued economic growth is dependent on the ready availability of appropriate modern infrastructure.
Zayo’s ambition to grow and develop our UK fibre network solutions means we are ideally placed to underpin this commitment.
Zayo brings a fibre first philosophy coupled with extensive knowledge and experience in delivering connectivity to the public sector across both the United Kingdom and the United States. Our extensive network in the UK and Western Europe includes dense metro networks in major markets and subsea access to Zayo’s global network.
In addition, Zayo is already an integrated part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) led Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) community.

Case Study: Broadband for Rural North
Broadband for the Rural North (B4RN) is a community-led provider of high-speed fibre broadband for residents and businesses in rural parts of the North of England using Zayo fibre connectivity from Zayo.
B4RN is a professionally designed fibre optic broadband network, registered as a non-profit community benefit society, run by a dedicated local team with the support of landowners and volunteers. It offers 1,000 Mbps FTTH broadband to every property in their coverage area with over 6,500 properties already connected.
B4RN uses Zayo’s new trans-Pennine fibre route, as well as Deeside to Manchester on Zayo’s direct route.
“Zayo has helped B4RN expand our network to new areas and support those communities that have come together to get a better internet service. As a community Broadband provider this will help rural communities to flourish by being better connected”
Barry Forde, CEO of B4RN
Case Study: Broadband for Surrey Hills
Broadband for Surrey Hills (B4SH) is an independent broadband network for the area, designed to bring up to 1 Gbps fibre to homes and businesses with same speed upload and download.
B4SH provides access to Zayo’s fibre backbone to enable high-speed, high-capacity fibre to homes in the Surrey Hills area. Traditional internet speeds ranged from two to 30 Mbps and can be as low as two Mbps download but only 0.5 Mbps upload and the service could be unreliable.
“Zayo has helped enable our higher reliability connectivity to rural Surrey residents who have historically suffered from poor connectivity. As a community broadband provider, B4SH will enhance the connected lives of residents and attract rural business with our standard symmetric full-fibre services that are vital for the increasing number of cloud-based applications.”
Walter Wilcox, Broadband for Surrey Hills
