Simple, Efficient, and Cost-Effective Connections into Mexico Made Possible by Zayo

Blog

|June 6, 2024

With a booming manufacturing industry and burgeoning data center business, Mexico is an increasingly critical player in North America – one of the most economically powerful regions in the world. Free trade agreements like the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) help trade thrive among these countries. The U.S. and Canada alone have invested $453.6 billion in Mexico since 1996, a figure that’s constantly on the rise.

Now is a great time for global-minded organizations to take advantage of free trade agreements in the region and expand operations into Mexico. The country’s geographic proximity to the United States, low cost structure compared to its northern neighbors, and guaranteed access to the largest market in the world make it attractive to growth-focused companies.

Many industries between the U.S. and Mexico depend on cross-border supply chains. However, Zayo is one of the few large North American providers doing cross-border connections, making network connectivity seamless and cost-effective between the U.S. and Mexico.

Starting in the first quarter of 2026, we’ll offer fiber in addition to IP and waves on our owned Fermaca route. Today, Zayo sells 10G, 100G, and 400G IP and wavelength services on leased routes connecting key cities in Mexico. In this blog, we’ll take a look at the value of working with Zayo as your network connectivity partner in the U.S. and Mexico – today and in the future.

Simplify Cross-Border Connections

Today, many organizations with operations in the U.S. and Mexico handle the cross-border connections between their U.S. carrier networks and Mexican carrier networks themselves. These connections are costly and often come with regulatory and network complexity challenges.

By working with Zayo, you can offload the cost and complexity of cross-border connections to us. We will coordinate the connections with your Mexican provider and help you overcome any regulatory challenges that may stand in the way of seamless connectivity. When you buy waves or IP services from Zayo, you buy the entire service from us end-to-end.

Work With a Single Carrier Across Borders

Right now, companies operating in the U.S. and Mexico have to coordinate with multiple vendors for connectivity across borders. But now, they don’t have to.

Zayo can negotiate with multiple carriers and find the best routes in Mexico for your organization at the best price point. We have extensive carrier relationships in the region and lease fiber from multiple carriers. When you work with Zayo, we’ll manage the local carrier and fiber relationships for you so you can work with a single provider for your connectivity needs in both countries.

Receive Streamlined Support

Although the waves and IP services Zayo provides in Mexico today are on fiber routes that are leased, customers who buy these services from Zayo in Mexico will benefit from Zayo support. When a customer needs network support, they will call Zayo’s Network Operations Center (NOC) for support. Instead of dealing with a third-party vendor service, all support and tickets go through a single carrier for a seamless experience.

Prepare for Zayo’s Owned Fiber Route

Come 2026, Zayo will own fiber in Mexico. Any IP and waves services sold to Queretaro in the meantime can be migrated in early 2025 to a brand new, completely diverse fiber route. Customers will also benefit from the same terms and conditions that are applied to their existing service.

The route, built in partnership with Fermaca, will be the newest fiber route built in Mexico in 20 years and will span six key Mexican cities – connecting from Ciudad Juarez to Queretaro and Guadalajara. It will be built with modern fiber optic fiber, offer 400G connectivity, and enable key industries like manufacturing with direct connections to regional data center hubs.

Gain Connectivity Between Key Mexican and U.S. Locations

Today, we offer connections from Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Chicago, Ashburn, and New York in the U.S. to Monterrey, Guadalajara, Queretaro, and Mexico City in Mexico. The U.S. locations are aligned with the highest concentration of data centers. The Mexican cities are data center capitals, manufacturing hubs, and centers of financial services and banking.

Why Work With Zayo?
