Miss Us at AWS re:Invent? Here’s the Replay.

By: Tyler Coates, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Segment

Last week, Zayo participated in the world’s largest global cloud computing conference, AWS re:Invent, in Las Vegas, NV. Our week was full of new insights, new connections and a few accolades as well. Here are our top highlights from the week.

Zayo’s CloudLink was named a “Direct Connect Network Infrastructure Competency Partner”

The AWS Networking Competency is awarded to partners who are Advanced APN Tier Partners able to provide network solutions to assist customers in adopting, developing and deploying applications on AWS. This competency signifies that CloudLink by Zayo offers a set of specialized solutions that auto scale and align with cloud design principles and make it easier to use networking features in an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC).

Specifically, CloudLink was awarded the competency in the “Direct Connect Network Infrastructure” category for our ability to connect enterprises and data centres directly to their cloud assets in AWS. The designation validates Zayo’s technical capabilities and demonstrated success with customers.

CloudLink’s Milos Marjanovic appeared on SiliconANGLE’s theCUBE Live Show

Milos Marjanovic, VP of Enterprise Networks at Zayo, and Kevin Sheehan, chief technology officer at Ciena, appeared on SiliconANGLE’s theCUBE to talk about a new CloudLink feature enabling enterprises to order and install connectivity to public cloud resources in real-time, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). The end result will be more rapid, flexible, elastic cloud connectivity, which is consistent with how customers want to consume cloud resources today.

Milos mentioned that “with our fibre network, we have over 1,000 data centres on-net.  Zayo is uniquely positioned with customers that have a private cloud solution or are deploying a hybrid model with the public cloud. We want to maintain an end-to-end user experience so that customers can log in to a portal on our end, configure a connection to the cloud, and have that connection turn up in a public cloud such as AWS in real-time.”

CloudLink by Zayo now Enables Direct Connections to VMware Cloud on AWS

CloudLink by Zayo will now offer enterprises the ability to connect directly to VMware Cloud on AWS in five regions and through 22 on-ramps in cities including Portland, Boston, Stockholm, Denver, London, New York, Atlanta, Alexandria, Glattbrugg, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam.

VMware Cloud on AWS delivers a seamless hybrid cloud experience by extending customers’ on-premises VMware vSphere environment to the AWS cloud. Enterprises use VMware Cloud on AWS to easily move vSphere-based workloads to the cloud and reduce the risk and cost of cloud migrations.  Additionally, enterprises can extend on-premises data centres and easily migrate targeted application workloads to VMware Cloud on AWS without application refactoring or conversions and obtain bi-directional workload portability between on-premises and VMware Cloud on AWS.

“Zayo’s CloudLink solution will make it easier for enterprise customers to establish a dedicated, more secure and fast connection from on-premises environments to VMware Cloud on AWS,” said Ivan Oprencak, Director, Product Marketing, VMware Cloud on AWS, VMware, “This collaboration can help customers accelerate their journey to the hybrid cloud through seamless cloud migrations.”

Zayo partners with Versa to offer Cloud Migration Solutions

To help customers on their AWS migration journey, Zayo and Versa Networks have packaged Versa’s Secure SD-WAN with direct cloud connectivity and network support from Zayo. The solution combines Versa’s SD-WAN technology and Zayo’s direct cloud connectivity providing secure, high-performance connectivity between their on-premises data centres, branch offices, and AWS. It enables customers to more rapidly migrate to AWS and experience better performance, stronger security and lower costs after the migration has been completed.

This solution utilizes intelligent routing, traffic prioritization, and network segmentation to identify more than 3,000 specific applications.  These applications are then carefully mapped across MPLS, internet and broadband routes based on business policy and app-specific SLAs. Additionally, the solution utilizes next-generation firewall and URL filtering functionality for an additional layer of protection. Secure SD-WAN services enable enterprises to virtualize a cloud-network fabric that accelerates advanced application consumption demands. This solution supports enterprise digital agility, speed, and security, all while ensuring and improving end-user experience.

Zayo Connected with Customers & Partners at our booth in the Expo Hall

As the largest cloud computing conference in the world, AWS re:Invent drew over 50,000 attendees to Las Vegas throughout the week. We got to see many of our customers and partners throughout the week, as well as make new connections with technology leaders at our booth.

Be sure to tweet @ZayoGroup your top takeaways from re:Invent 2018. Thanks to AWS for a great week!
