BOULDER, Colo. —Mar. 28, 2014—Zayo Group, LLC (“Zayo”), an international provider of Bandwidth Infrastructure services, announces an expansion in its Mount Prospect, Ill., colocation facility, located at 800 E. Business Center Dr.
zColo, Zayo’s colocation business, acquired the 82,000 sq. ft. facility in August of 2013, At time of purchase, the site had approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of developed data center space. Recent network growth demands of two major internet/content delivery customers prompted a $12 million infrastructure investment to develop the facility. zColo will add 20,000 sq ft of datacenter floor space and 2 Megawatts of utility capacity in a fully redundant N+1 environment, resulting in approximately 32,000 sq ft of total datacenter space and 4 Megawatts of utility power.
The expansion includes power and security system upgrades, redundant cooling systems, and a complete internal remodeling of the facility, which enables customers to access Zayo’s full suite of services and connect to Chicago carrier hotels via Zayo’s dark fiber footprint. The expansion will be completed in August 2014.
Mount Prospect facility customers can colocate in the zColo Mount Prospect facility, while retaining a virtual presence in zColo’s 600 S. Federal St. downtown Chicago data center, or in 350 E. Cermak, using zColo’s Metro Interconnect solution. Metro Interconnects leverage Zayo’s high count dark fiber network to tether suburban colocation facilities, such as Mount Prospect, to key points of internet connectivity. This allows zColo customers connectivity to critical Chicago peering points, internet service providers, financial institutions such as the Chicago Stock Exchange and Mercantile Exchange, and other locations accessible via Zayo’s metro and long haul fiber network.
“The Mount Prospect expansion offers customers a cost-effective colocation alternative to a downtown Chicago carrier hotel, with the same level of connectivity, security and reliability,” says Greg Friedman, vice president of zColo. “Developing the additional space enables zColo to handle the growing demand for hosting, content delivery, and disaster recovery that we’re seeing in the Chicago market.”
