Field Service Technician-Allstream

Installs and maintains essential voice, data and network services including wiring. Provides installation and maintenance of customer premise equipment and the network supporting the services. Responds to installation and services requests.
As a Field Service Technician you would be expected to take on the challenge of the ever changing industry of telecommunications and networking.
These skills are REQUIRED:

- 3+ years’ of telecommunications and Network installation experience.
- Working knowledge of DSO, DSL, DS1, EoC, and EoF services
- Demonstrated ability to use Voltmeters, Loop Tester and Digital / Ethernet test sets.
- Exposure to and/or knowledge of cable color-coding and methods for bonding and cleaning cables.
- Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
- Strong dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Strong problem solving skills, the ability to make decisions with some latitude and the ability to organize and prioritize work base on established guidelines
- Must be able to perform primary medium work.
- Must possess good visual and color acuity.
- Must be able to meet physical requirement standards as listed in Essential Requirements above.

Requires very frequent bending at the waist, twisting of the upper body, standing, speaking and hearing and frequent kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, repetitive use of the hands, squeezing, keyboarding and crouching. Requires frequent lifting and carrying of 1-10 pounds, frequent lifting of 11-20 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying of 21-50 or more pounds. Also requires constant pushing and pulling of 1-50 pounds and infrequent pushing and pulling of over 50 pounds with the aid of handcarts or other wheeled devices. Must be able to perform primarily medium work. Must be able to perform close detail work, operate mobile equipment. Must possess good visual and color acuity.
Requirements: High school diploma or GED or the equivalent in training and experience. The Ability to troubleshoot complex wiring and/or telecommunications systems using standard testing tools and equipment. Knowledge of telecommunications terminology and applications. Computer skills including spreadsheets and word processing. Good verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, work semi-independently and to organize and prioritize multiple, conflicting priorities. Requires the ability to work independently, troubleshoot and recommend corrective procedures and meet inflexible commitment deadlines. This job will periodically require overtime work and/or on-call during off shift hours. Substitution coverage for this job requirement is limited and may periodically be non-existent. Valid driver’s license. Ability to gain access to restricted areas and government facilities.

SCOPE OF POSITION:
Works under general supervision, both independently and within a team environment. No supervisory responsibility. This position has minimal impact on the overall operations of the company but may have an immediate short-term impact on customer though the efficient and effective repair of problems and through direct customer interaction.
This is a complex position involving both detailed technical skills and customer service skills. This position requires continuous learning on the part of the technician and requires that the technician have a working knowledge of, as well as learning new systems and updates for all products supported by Zayo/Allstream.
