Zayo Invests in Connectivity to Data Centres Across The Netherlands

Amsterdam is a key commercial centre in Western Europe and a significant data centre hub. The region grew by ~20% in terms of megawatts last year according to the Dutch Data Centre Association (DDA). The growth has brought demand for fibre connectivity from organizations that range from large webscale companies to commercial and research firms in multiple sectors.

To meet that demand, the Zayo team in the Netherlands is connecting key sites in the metro area as well as in Rotterdam:

Firstly, we built out our fibre network to Edgeconnex EDCAMS01. This centre is located in Schiphol-Rijk, a fast growing hub for data centers just outside Amsterdam and located close to Amsterdam’s international airport. This is a popular location for many of Zayo’s customers and we deliver wavelength, Ethernet and IP services to many of the data centres in the area.

Staying in the Schiphol-Rijk area, we will also connect Maincubes AMSO1 and Interxion AMS3 via new fibre.

Finally, we have expanded our fibre footprint in the Rotterdam area to connect to the NLDC SmartDC datacenter and also to the MediaPark in Hilversum. The MediaPark is growing rapidly and is now the main media hub for the Netherlands.

Additionally, Zayo’s sub-sea Circe North cable lands in the Netherlands in Zandvoort and Amsterdam itself sits right on top Zayo’s long haul fibre network providing high-speed access to London/Manchester/Dublin, Rotterdam/Brussels/Paris and Dusseldorf/Frankfurt.

Recent research from the Dutch National Statistics Bureau (CBS) underlined the how both the digital and digital infrastructure sectors are key engines for economic growth across the Netherlands. As a result, the Netherlands is now home to 200 large data centres, 2 hyperscale campuses (Eemshaven and Middenmeer) and 2 of the top ten global internet exchanges, Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMX-IX) and Netherlands IX (NL-IX).

This advanced communications infrastructure, access to sustainable energy and a skilled, multilingual workforce and comparatively affordable property has made Amsterdam an attractive location for organisations wanting to do business across Europe.

Marco Bes, Business Development Director for Zayo in the Netherlands, commented: “Amsterdam’s development as an IT hub for the Benelux countries continues at pace with locations such as Schiphol-Rijk and Hilversum rapidly making names for themselves in the data center and media space respectively. Zayo’s expanding fiber network in the Netherlands is well-placed to give companies access to its global platform covering Europe, North America, South America and the Far East.”
